Kathleen Kim, Soprano

Kathleen Kim is a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera New York in many different roles such as Tytania (Midsummernight's Dream) under the baton of James Conlon, Olympia (Les contes d'Hoffmann) and Blondchen (The Abduction from the Seraglio) under James Levine, Oscar (Un ballo in maschera) with Fabio Luisi conducting and Zerbinetta (Ariadne on Naxos) conducted by Kirill Petrenko. She also sang Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) in New York under Sebastian Weigle and La Fée (Cendrillon) under the baton of Bertrand de Billy. Opéra de Paris will present her in this very role in a new production of Massenet’s Cendrillon in the 2021-22 season. Opéra Comique Paris has contracted the artist for the title role in the Pulitzer-prize winning opera Madame White Snake by Zhou Long. 

Kathleen Kim sang Violetta (La traviata) at the Korean Opera with great success and returned as Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) last season. In Montreal she excited the audience as Lucia di Lammermoor.

In Europe she was heard at the Bavarian State Opera as Blondchen under Ivor Bolton and as Olympia. With this very role she was invited as a guest to the Liceu in Barcelona. Other engagements have taken her to Brussels as Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), to Frankfurt as Zerbinetta (Ariadne on Naxos) and to Glyndebourne Festival as Tytania, where she also appeared in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges.

In addition to the above-mentioned parts, contemporary music also forms an integral part of Kathleen Kim's work. So she sang the role of Josephine in the premiere of An American Soldier by Huang Ruo in Saint Louis. As Madame Mao in Nixon in China by John Adams, she was heard at the MET under the baton of the composer and at the BBC Proms.

She sang important concerts with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate independence with Myung-Wung Chung conducting, with whom she also performed Mahler's 2nd and 8th Symphonies and Beethoven's 9th Symphony (recorded by Deutsche Grammophon ).
