Thomas Guggeis, Conductor

Thomas Guggeis created an international stir in March 2018 when he was tapped to take over a highly acclaimed new production of Salome from Christoph von Dohnányi at the Staatsoper Berlin and since the 2020/21 season, he is holding the position of Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Berlin. In this capacity he will conduct in the 21/22 season productions of Falstaff, Lohengrin, Samson et Dalila, Hänsel und Gretel, Don Giovanni, Jenufa, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor and Elektra. This is followed by his debut at the Vienna State Opera with Salome and Die tote Stadt, which he will also conduct at the Semperoper Dresden. He can be seen in concerts with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Frankfurter Museumsorchester, Dresdner Philharmonie, Essen Philharmoniker, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Boulez Ensemble. Concerts with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker will follow again. 

Guggeis had recent successes at the Frankfurt Opera with Mozart's Requiem and with Ariadne auf Naxos.

From 2018-2020 the young conductor has been the First Kapellmeister of the Staatsoper Stuttgart, where he conducted, amongst others, pieces such as La Bohème, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Madama Butterfly, Der Prinz von Homburg and Der Freischütz. In addition to his position in Stuttgart. At the same time, he also worked at the Berlin State Opera as Daniel Barenboim's assistant and has since conducted performances of La Traviata, Katja Kabanova, Freischütz, Ariadne auf Naxos, Die Zauberflöte, Samson et Dalila and Salome.

In the operatic realm he led performances at the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Chamber Opera Munich, where he held the position as Kapellmeister for several seasons. At the Theater an der Wien, where he already conducted a new production of Debussy‘s Pelléas et Mélisande in February 2018, he made his debut with a new production of Oberon.

In the symphonic field he has conducted a.o. the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Swedish Radio Symphony, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He also gave concerts at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl, with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker and with the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin. 

Guggeis studied Conducting and Piano at the conservatories of Munich and Milan.
